IDR - Updated June 07
The Council issued a proposal to make the Inner Distribution Road one-way running anti-clockwise with 3 lanes, rather than the current 4.
In June 07, the council has called a halt to the physical work on the project and has set up a public commission with an independent chair to look at current and projected traffic problems in Reading consulting widely to find solutions. The commission will also advise on whether or not to hold a public enquiry and the cabinet would be bound by its findings.
Reading Council approved the one-way working proposal for the IDR at their meeting on 7 September 06, subject to the Scrutiny Panel on 25th September. Work was scheduled to start early in 2007. All Liberal Democrats and Conservatives voted against the proposal, and requested a public Inquiry into the scheme. Concerns from neighbouring authorities are still to be resolved. There has been considerable disquiet about the consultation process and the availability of relevant facts and information about the scheme.
CADRA is concerned about the potential impact on traffic in Caversham and to and from Caversham. CADRA has expressed concerns about the proposals and has been trying to get information from RBC so that we could make more informed comments. This has not been helped by the one reply to our five communications getting lost in the post. We are continuing to try and elicit information and put Caversham’s concerns forward.
Some Caversham people have started a website www.ReadingIDR.info This may give further information.
Further information is available on the Council website at www.reading.gov.uk/transportandstreets/
Wokingham District Council has lodged an application for a judicial review of the scheme.
Update 20 Jan 07
In early January 2007 some changes were made to the proposals to include additional cycle paths and crossings. The changes are outlined in an addendum to the study on environmental impacts of the scheme.
