New Bus Service through Caversham Heights

Thames Travel have added an express service from Reading to Oxford through Caversham Heights - the X39. This is in addition to the existing X40 service which runs between Reading and Benson. Both buses travel over Caversham Bridge, up St Peters Hill and out along the Woodcote Road. The buses will stop at any stop (or even between stops) but only on request.

The time into Reading is much quicker than the Number 9 service - at least outside of morning rush hour and much cheaper - only £1 from Harrogate Road to Reading Station.

Reading Buses Over 60's bus passes are valid on this service within the Reading boudaries but other season tickets etc are not.

Thames Travel Day Explorers can be used to travel anywhere on all routes after 09.00 Monday to Friday but ALL DAY Saturdays, Sundays & Bank Holidays until 23.45 at night. These cost:

     Adult £6.70

    Family £12.00 (either 2 adults traveling together, 2 adults and up to 3 children or 1 adult and up to 4 children)

The services leave Reading Station at the following times:

Monday to Friday

X39: 7:00, 9:05, and 5 past every hour until 1905.

X40: 7:27, 8:23, 9:25 and 25 past every hour until 15:25, 16:35 and 35 past every hour until 11:35. Also 00:35 and 02:05 Fri and Sat only

Saturday

X39: 7:00, 10:05, and 5 past every hour until 1905.

X40: 8:26, 9:25 and 25 past every hour until 15:25, 16:35 and 35 past every hour until 00:35 and 02:05

Sunday

X39: no service

X40: 8:35 and 35 past every hour until 23:35, except none at 22:35

The services enter the Reading boundary on Woodcote Road (Shepherds Lane) at approximately or just after the following times (times quoted are for Chazey Heath):

Monday to Friday

X39: 8:25, 9:30, 10:35, and 35 past every hour until 16:35, 17:40, 18:40

X40: 6:28, 7:10, 8:03 and 3 minutes past every hour until 15:03, 16:13 and 13 past every hour until 23:13, 00:11, 01:51, 02:51

Saturday

X39: 9:30, 10:35, and 35 past every hour until 1935.

X40: 8:10, 9:03, 8:03 and 3 minutes past every hour until 15:03, 16:13 and 13 past every hour until 23:13, 00:11, 01:51 and 02:51

Sunday

X39: no service

X40: 8:21, 9:21, 10:41 and 41 past every hour until 18:41, 19:46 and 46 past every hour until 22:46
