Reporting crimes and incidentsPolice resource allocation is based on demonstrable need - i.e. crime and other reported incidents so everyone is urged to formally report all incidents to the police. These reported incidents are reviewed frequently by the local police as they plan their activities and also to seek more precise information on crime perpetrators. It is often disappointing that no police acknowledgement or response occurs, but information supplied by the public is useful to policing activity. Unfortunately the Caversham team have been dealing with a significant number of burglaries, many undertaken in late afternoon, when the thieves can ascertain which houses are empty. Residents are urged to use a timer to switch some lights on to help prevent these offences.
In a procedure known as "All Crime Attendance", the Police Community Support Officers (PCSO's) will endeavour to contact all victims of un-witnessed crime to offer advice to prevent a repeat victim and gather intelligence on local crime patterns. The PCSO's will evaluate if police officer attendance is desirable.
