Safer Caversham Forum
The Safer Caversham Forum (SCF) is the local component of the Safer Reading Campaign. It includes 15 different groups:
- housing associations
- police and community wardens
- councillors, RBC staff from many specialist areas such as Youth Services and Street Care
- Churches Together in Caversham
- residents associations
It meets quarterly to consider
- projects which impact on the quality of life in Caversham
- identify aspects of Caversham life that need attention
- to foster communication between the groups to maximise value for resource allocation.
The SCF is provided with information from a variety of sources about crime, anti-social behaviour and also reports on a number of activities and initiatives to reduce negative features of Caversham life.
The more critical threats to safety in Caversham are met with police deployment, issuing of anti-social behaviour orders or contracts, and installation of CCTV and/or lighting.
There are also a large number of activities, events and facilities to help support children, families and youth. These start with mother and toddler play groups, and move on to include youth drop in centres, art, music and sport activities and venues, to training for employment opportunities, The SCF expresses opinions on the severity of situations and comments on proposals to address the problems, and reduce their incidence and impact in the future.
CADRA nominates one of their committee members to represent them on the Safer Caversham Forum. The present nominee is John Roach - click here to email him.
