ABOUT CADRAOur PurposeThe organisation was established almost 40 years ago and has become a widely respected voice for the community north of the river. Our aim is to: In essence this means trying to keep the good parts, improve the undesirable parts and prevent detrimental change.
What do we do?We resolutely avoid party political bias and work closely with Reading Councillors and Officers, other local groups, the Police, companies and individuals. Planning takes up a large proportion of our time due to the increasing number of applications for infill developments as well as more substantial schemes. With development set to continue or expand, a strong local voice is vital. We must be vigilant in monitoring emerging plans both in and around Caversham with the consequent strains on the infrastructure. With the advent of the new licensing laws, we have become involved in reviewing licensing applications As an organization we can help to keep the community informed on the various consultations and encourage as many people as possible to express their views. Where there is a common view, we can help to express this forcibly. We are represented on the Safer Caversham Forum and work closely with the police and other agencies to reduce crime, vandalism and graffiti. We have representatives on the Transport Users Forum, Caversham Globe, the Woodlands and Waterways group, Reading Civic Society, and Reading Voluntary Action and the consultative groups for Mapledurham Playing Fields and Caversham Court. We campaign on issues such as the lack of bus shelters, the proliferation of advertising and street signs, bad positioning of traffic lights, poorly maintained and dangerous footpaths and general litter and untidiness.
How do we work?We try to be the eyes and ears of Caversham, reporting issues which need attention and providing information for members of the community to do likewise. We have an elected committee which meets monthly and works daily meeting with other groups and forums, communicating with members and others in our community as well as the wider Reading and South Oxfordshire area. The Web SiteThis website is compiled entirely by volunteers. Please let us know if you have any information at info@cadra.org.uk
